Psychotherapy FAQs

Is psychotherapy right for me?

We work with people of all ages and walks of life who may be struggling with difficult emotions or experiences. We also work with people who just want to create change in their lives or understand themselves better.

How long do people do psychotherapy for?

Psychotherapy is a process and, as such, there is no defined length of time. Throughout the therapeutic process there is space for reflection and to consider how psychotherapy is helping you.

How long does a session last?

Individual psychotherapy sessions usually last one hour.

How frequently do sessions occur?

Individual psychotherapy sessions usually occur weekly

Where would we meet?

We offer psychotherapy sessions In Person or via Zoom or FaceTime.

How is our approach different?

Integrating the body, movement and creative arts within Psychotherapy creates the opportunity for you to explore difficult emotions and experiences by accessing emotions and insights that may be challenging to reach through verbal communication alone.  Underpinning this approach is an understanding of the connection between the mind and body and the impact of this on a person’s life and wellbeing. Central to the psychotherapeutic process is the relationship between you and the therapist.

What can I expect in a session?

In a session we usually start with talking and then may do some work with the body and movement, drawing, writing, or story to help you to explore and understand some of the areas you have talked about. We use the final part of the session to reflect on the work we have done and bring the session to a close.

What is the difference between individual and group psychotherapy?

Individual psychotherapy gives you the opportunity to focus on yourself and the experiences you would like to explore and understand. Group psychotherapy gives you the opportunity to consider your own experience in relation to other people’s experiences, and to receive and give support to others.

Do I need previous experience in dance or other creative arts forms?

No previous experience in dance or other creative art forms is necessary.

What if I just want to talk?

It’s fine to just talk.

How do I stop psychotherapy?

If you decide you would like to stop your psychotherapy sessions, you must discuss this with your psychotherapist and give at least four weeks’ notice so that the work can be completed. Your psychotherapist will confirm this discussion with you in writing and give you the final date for your psychotherapeutic work.

Supervision FAQs

What is supervision?

Supervision gives you the space to reflect on your work with other people. You have the opportunity to consider this work from a range of perspectives, understand the dynamics within the work, and explore your own processes in relation to this work. This enables best possible practice.

Who is supervision for?

We work with a range of professionals in the fields of psychotherapy, health care, arts in health, and education catering to individuals at various stages of their careers. Whether you are an aspiring arts in health professional navigating how to apply creativity in a health context, a seasoned psychotherapist or health care provider wanting to deepen your understanding of your work with others, or an educator facing new challenges, our services are designed to support your unique professional journey.

What kind of supervision do you offer?

We offer a creative embodied approach to supervision where you can explore your work with others using your body, movement, and a range of creative arts media alongside talking. In this way you can gain new insights. Using this approach you can reflect on your clients’ needs and the dynamics within the work, untangle complex feelings in relation to the work, look at the relationship between your personal material and the therapeutic process, and explore possible directions for development.

How long do people have supervision for?

Supervision is a professional requirement for many people who work in the area of health. If you are working in a different field then you can discuss with your supervisor how long you would like to be in supervision for.

How long does a session last?

Supervision sessions usually last for between sixty to ninety minutes, depending on the frequency of sessions. Group supervision sessions usually last for two hours.

In a supervision you will have the opportunity to reflect on the content of your sessions with your clients and to consider what is working well, what is more challenging; understand the dynamics of the relationship between you and your clients; consider the specific needs of individual clients; explore the impact of your personal material on the therapeutic relationship and process, recognise the influence of the dynamics within institutions and how this might affect clinical work. The sessions will also aim to support you in your professional growth and development.

There is also space to explore personal material in relation to this work and to develop new skills.
